Summary/Technical Issue

There was an interruption to Amazon Web Services on 05/06/2016 at 3pm (15:00) which affected servers in one of the availability zones in the AP-SOUTHEAST-2 region data centre where the DataTools Kleber and Correct Address+ service are hosted. There were also reports of possible sporadic connection issues to the AWS data centre.

DataTools external monitoring of the DataTools services during this time reported no interruption to the DataTools services.

Our investigation showed that during these times that transaction to the DataTools services were automatically processed by the available zone and additional servers from the affected zone were automatically transferred to the available zone with no degradation of service. The extra processing capacity available in reserve in the available zone more than handled the extra processing transferred from the failed zone until the additional servers were started.

The conclusion is that the interruptions affecting the AWS services in Amazon’s AP-SOUTHEAST-2 Region data centre did not affect the performance of the DataTools services. However, even though there were no reported issues to DataTools from its customers and DataTools external monitoring did not detect any issues – the “Connectivity Issue” reported by Amazon suggest that it is possible that some transactions to the DataTools service may have experience a degraded quality of service during this time.
